3D Metaphysical Paintings

The artworks are based on the Metaphysical Paintings of Giorgio de Chirico. Two animated cinemagraphs were created depicting various Singaporean landscapes. The techniques used were 3D modelling, animation, and digital painting. In the spirit of de Chirico’s enigmatic depictions of his Italian cities, we turned mundane Singaporean backdrops into dreamscapes via the unexpected juxtaposition of everyday objects. Our goal is to create a dreamlike view of Singapore beyond the physical reality – a Singapore that cannot be seen.

We wanted to use technology to further explore the ideas of de Chirico, making more immersive works through the addition of sound and animation.
